MAFS Engages Partners and Stakeholders on World Food Day and Feed Salone One-Year Celebration.
Today, 30th September 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) held a meeting with partners and key stakeholders to strategize on #mobilizing #resources for the upcoming World Food Day and the celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Feed Salone programme. The meeting took place at the Ministry’s conference room, located on the first floor of Youyi Building.
In his opening remarks, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, welcomed the #new Senior Permanent Secretary, Mr. Prince Cole, and expressed his gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio for launching the Feed Salone programme during last year’s World Food Day in Pujehun. This timing, he noted, made it particularly fitting to commemorate both events together.
Dr. Kpaka stressed the importance of celebrating World Food Day, stating that it would provide an opportunity to showcase the Ministry’s #achievements over the past year. He assured the President of the National Farmers Federation of Sierra Leone, Madam Yatta Sama, of the Ministry’s commitment to fully supporting farmers and ensuring a successful and vibrant celebration. The Minister encouraged farmers to bring a variety of local produce, as this would be one of the criteria for the Best Farmer award during the event.
The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Madam Princess Dugba, also expressed her commitment to supporting the Feed Salone initiative. She emphasized the importance of collaboration across ministries to realize President Bio’s vision of making Sierra Leone self-sufficient in food production.
Madam Yatta Sama, President of the National Farmers Federation, highlighted the ongoing activities within the federation, including the much-anticipated #Farmers‘ #Night Show, all aimed at ensuring a successful World Food Day and Feed Salone celebration. She revealed that 60 booths will be set up, providing farmers with the opportunity to showcase and sell their products to potential buyers.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with newly appointed Senior Permanent Secretary Mr. Prince Cole urging all Sierra Leoneans to set aside political differences and unite in making the one-year celebration of Feed Salone and World Food Day a success.
The Minister of Youth Affairs Mohamed Orman Bangura and Deputy Minister II Sahr Hemore were in attendance.
